SHARED PASSION

Animals such as cute cats and turtles, but also fantastic creatures such as dragons, dragon foxes or rhino bees – the Russian artist Natalie Shtimmer makes wonderful mixed media sculptures of all kinds. Natalie is a self-taught artist with an engineering degree, passion for art and limitless imagination. She has been creative since her early childhood and she was looking for a way to stay creative and make toys and dolls that she loved so much as kid.

Five years ago she saw a magazine dedicated to felting in an art and craft supply store. Thanks to the support and faith of her loved ones, she decided to try and start learning how to make the simplest toys.

She has been looking for her own style, using various materials and techniques. And two years ago she discovered polymer clay. It was love at first sight and she realized that sculpture is her greatest love. Each of her toys is made entirely by hand, most are made in mixed media from polymer clay in combination with fur or a different fabric. Natalie tries to make each doll as mobile as possible using skeletons for toys, cotter pins or wire. In addition to polymer clay, she really likes working with epoxy and some of her works contain epoxy elements (for example, fins in her koi dragons).

Despite the fact that she has been living in St. Petersburg, Natalie was born and raised in the Altai Territory, which is rich in forests, mountains and a fantastic variety of flora and fauna. She really loves nature and it is one of the main sources of her inspiration. She also draws heavily on Japanese mythology and Asian culture in general, as well as her favorite music, cartoons and yoga. She explains that most often, the characters appear in her head spontaneously and unexpectedly, so after sketching, she immediately runs to sculpt them. In addition to creating her own original characters, she likes to make toys according to drawings by other artists, having previously obtained permission from them.

Natalie’s artwork has already won her international acclaim. She managed to participate in many exhibitions in different countries, thematic exhibitions on teddy bears and dolls in Moscow and St. Petersburg and the Project Doll exhibitions in Busan and Seoul (South Korea). Even though dolls are her main income, she says it’s not a job for making money, it is allows her to share her creativity with the world and to bring happiness to the houses that purchase her dolls. She insists that she only creates her dolls when she is in a good mood, never when she is sick, tired or experiencing unpleasant periods in her life. She loves all her creations equally and puts a piece of her soul, love and warmth into it.

Hledala vlastní styl, zkoušela různé materiály a techniky.

Umožňuje jí sdílet tvořivost s ostatními a přinášet štěstí do domovů těch, kteří si její sošky koupí. Všechny svoje výtvory má stejně ráda a do každého z nich vkládá kousek své duše, lásky a vřelosti.
