Detailed animal sculptures by Michela De Toma are the definition of cuteness. The Italian artist, also known as @michi.mux on Instagram and Michimux Artstudio on Facebook, makes not only wild animals, but also their customers’ pets that she always recreates in her own style, following the pictures that her customers provide her with.
Michela studied art in high school. She also studied architecture but dropped out to dedicate herself to hand-painted enamel miniature jewelry, until she decided to put her career on hold and become a mother. As her sons grew up, she decided she wanted to do something for herself and catch back up with her creative passion. This is how, three years ago, she discovered polymer clay.
She tried many different artistic genres before defining her own style in the creation of articulated miniature animals that can be used both as pendants and as standing figures. Michela says that painting is the most crucial and distinctive part of her creative process, probably as a consequence of her first passion for enamel jewelry. Michela focuses extensively on the details and, specifically, on the subject's eyes, usually sweet and melancholic, which – she believes – is what gives life and a soul to the creation.
Being 52 years old, Michela only regrets not having started sculpting earlier on in her life, which is why there isn't a day she doesn't devote at least a few hours to this wonderful form of art.

Italská umělkyně, také známá jako @michi.mux na Instagramu a Michimux Artstudio na Facebooku, tvoří nejen divoká zvířata, ale také domácí mazlíčky na zakázku. Zakázky vždy tvoří ve svém vlastním stylu podle fotografií, které jí její zákazníci pošlou.
Michela studovala umění na střední škole. Vyzkoušela mnoho různých žánrů, než si vytvořila svůj vlastní v podobě miniaturních pohyblivých zvířátek, která se dají nosit jako přívěsek nebo použít jako dekorace. Michela říká, že nejdůležitější a nejcharakterističtější částí jejího tvůrčího procesu je malování figurek, což je asi důsledek její původní záliby ve smaltovaných špercích. Michela se hodně zaměřuje na detaily, zejména na oči figurek, které obvykle mají roztomilý a melancholický výraz. Věří, že jsou to právě oči, které jejím figurkám vdechují život a duši.
V 52 letech lituje Michela pouze jediné věci – že nezačala modelovat dřív. To je také důvod, proč v jejím životě neuplyne jediný den bez toho, aniž by věnovala alespoň několik hodin této báječné formě umění.
