Everything about the artwork of Isabelle Meyer seems to be exceptional – the colours, patterns, quality of craftsmanship, but there’s is one thing that stands out above all. It’s the design concept of each of Isabelle’s pieces. No matter how diverse her portfolio is, it shows a very good understanding of the rules of great design.
It’s all the more surprising when you consider that Isabelle has been working with polymer clay for a relatively short time. She first touched the clay in 2015 and she immediately fully embraced the medium and everything that the medium entails, from the initial conditioning to the finishing touches in the creative process.
The French artist, who is well-known under her brand name Bellou, says that she can’t identify a single preferred technique – she loves to experiment and the possibilities of the material are limitless in her mind. However, she admits that she very often employs mixed media in her artwork; she uses a lot of inks, paints and pastels in combination with translucent clay.
Isabelle’s aspiration is to be able to support herself solely through her art and that includes teaching polymer workshops. She currently teaches small groups of polymer clay enthusiasts but her dream is to increase the enrollment in her classes. She points out that being a teacher involves being a student at the same time and she constantly tries to learn from the great masters of polymer clay art. V současné době učí malé skupinky polymerových nadšenců, ale do budoucna by ráda pracovala s větším počtem studentů.
