Many things reflect in our art and the place where we live is one of them. When you look at the beautiful colourful blossoms by Amanda Alva, they might easily take you to a hot place with luscious fruit and myriads of flowers. Perú, the place where Amanda comes from, is just like that. She describes her country as a wonderful place full of tradition, ancient monuments, colour and warm people.
The Peruvian artist says that her relationship with art started when she was a child. She needed to express herself through her hands, colors, shapes and textures.
She studied industrial engineering at university, and she dedicated almost twenty years to her career in the industry. However, she kept venturing into different artistic disciplines and techniques. And how did she find polymer clay? She actually says that polymer clay found her, and it happened almost 9 years ago. Since then I hasn’t stopped experimenting and teaching in her own workshop called "Lúceme".
Amanda says that polymer provides her with everything she needs in order to express herself, and she's always looking for new inspiring techniques. For example, in these difficult times of isolation we are living, she wanted to pay tribute to Ayacucho, a department in the mountains of her country. In there you can find "Flowers of Ayacucho", and she made a necklace to honour those, combining the joy and idiosyncrasy of her wonderful land.
These flowers are originally embroidered in sheep's wool and dyed in bright colors with natural pigments from the region. The way in which Amanda managed to translate the style of the embroidery into polymer is amazing. Her jewellery does bring joy and a much needed dose of positive vibes.

V naší tvorbě se odráží mnoho věcí a místo, kde žijeme, je jednou z nich. Když se díváte na krásné pestrobarevné květy vytvořené Amandou Alva, hravě vás přenesou na místo, kde je horko, je tam plno lahodného ovoce a záplava květin. Peru, odkud Amanda pochází, je přesně takové. Popisuje ho jako úžasnou zemi plnou tradic, starověkých památek, barev a vřelých lidí.
Peruánská umělkyně říká, že její vztah k umění se zrodil už v dětství. Potřebovala se vyjádřit rukama, skrze barvy, tvary a textury. Studovala průmyslové inženýrství na univerzitě a práci v oboru zasvětila skoro dvacet let. Přesto zároveň prozkoumávala různá umělecká odvětví a techniky. A jak objevila polymerovou hmotu? Říká, že polymerová hmota si našla ji a stalo se to téměř před devíti lety. Od té doby nepřestala s hmotou experimentovat a také učit ve svém vlastním ateliéru s názvem „ Lúceme“.
Amanda říká, že polymer jí poskytuje vše, co potřebuje k sebevyjádření a stále hledá nové a inspirativní techniky. Například v této obtížné době izolace, ve které teď žijeme, chtěla vzdát hold horskému regionu Ayacucho. Můžete tam najít „Květy z Ayacucho“, a tak jako poctu těmto květům vytvořila náhrdelník, který v sobě spojuje radost a osobitost její úžasné země.
Květy z Ayacucho jsou tradičně vyšívány ovčí vlnou, barvenou do jasných odstínů přírodními pigmenty pocházejícími z dané oblasti. Způsob, jakým Amanda převedla styl výšivky do polymeru, je báječný. Její šperky opravdu přinášejí radost a tolik potřebnou dávku pozitivních vibrací.
