When looking at Gerd Rucker’s artworks, you can’t be sure who’s watching whom. There are countless eyes that are checking you out in a sort of threatening and psychedelic way at any given moment. It’s not unpleasant, however; instead it makes you think about the interactive nature of art. We dare say good art is like good teaching – never a one-way process. There’s always a dialog present.
Gerd Rucker is a Vienna-based artist who has been using polymer clay as his material for the last 10 years. He combines the medium with metal, glitter, acrylic, ink and synthetic resin. Coming from the field of ceramics, he is interested in animals, living creatures, the countless variations of insects and organic structures.
Gerd’s organic pieces, whether framed or free standing, faithfully mimic their natural models. He achieves great textures by endless repetition of individual elements. The colours are strong and vivid, and in combination with the omnipresent eyes even disturbing sometimes.
His expression runs the range between his threatening, chaotic power and his helplessly comical drive to the glittering and iridescent formalization of animal beings – all capturing the world of permanent observation of our time. In a time where it is the most important thing to see and be seen.

Když se díváte na tvorbu Gerda Ruckera, nejste si jistí, kdo vlastně koho sleduje. Najdete v ní bezpočet očí, které vás neustále sledují způsobem, který se dá popsat jako divoký až hrozivý. Není to však nepříjemné, spíš vás to donutí zamyslet se nad interaktivní povahou umění. Troufáme si říci, že umění, stejně jako dobrá výuka, není nikdy jednosměrné. Vždy je přítomen dialog.
Gerd Rucker, který žije ve Vídni, pracuje s polymerovou hmotou posledních deset let. Polymer kombinuje s kovem, třpytkami, akrylem, inkousty a syntetickou pryskyřicí. Vzděláním je keramik a ve své tvorbě se nejvíce zabývá zvířaty, různými živočichy, nekonečnými variacemi ve světě hmyzu a organickými strukturami.
Gerdovy organické výtvory, ať už zarámované či volně stojící, věrně napodobují své přírodní předobrazy. Skvělých textur dosahuje mnohonásobným opakováním jednotlivých prvků. Barvy jsou jasné a výrazné, v kombinaci s všudypřítomnýma očima často až zneklidňující.
Jeho výraz se pohybuje na škále mezi hrozivou, chaotickou silou a často beznadějně komickou snahou o třpitivé a irizující ztvárnění zvířecích forem – a to vše zachycující svět naší doby, doby neustálého sledování. Doby, ve které tou nejhlavnější věcí je vidět a být viděn.
