The artwork of Kathleen Dustin needs no introduction – her wearable art is iconic. Her purses and other objects display the level of mastery rarely seen in polymer clay. She took the art of caning to perfection and often uses translucent clay to achieve extraordinary results. Her work is sculptural, often inspired by flowers and plants. In her own words, her work is also quite personal, reflecting ideas that are important or meaningful to her.
This is very much true about her latest collection, the “Gramma Series”. Kathleen took the actual drawings of her five grandchildren and turned them into brooches. Of course, she used polymer and combined it with oxidized silver to render certain linear parts of the drawings.
We love how she managed to translate the colours and the quality of drawing into polymer clay. It is beyond any doubt that all (grand)parents would love to have such a keepsake to take them back to the times when their (grand)children were little.

Umění Kathleen Dustin nepotřebuje žádný úvod – její nositelné kousky jsou ikonické. Její kabelky a další objekty jsou příkladem špičkové úrovně, která se v polymerové hmotě jen tak nevidí. Přivedla techniku skládání canů k naprosté dokonalosti a často používá průsvitné hmoty, aby dosáhla neobyčejných efektů a výsledků. Ve své práci využívá skulpturální styl, často se inspiruje květinami a rostlinami. Podle svých vlastních slov je její umění vždy osobní, reflektuje myšlenky, které jsou pro ni důležité a smysluplné.
To platí i pro její nejnovější kolekci, the “Gramma Series” (Babiččina série). Kathleen vzala kresby svých pěti vnuků a proměnila je v brože. Samozřejmě k jejich vytvoření použila polymerovou hmotu, kterou zkombinovala s oxidovaným stříbrem k vytvoření určitých lineárních částí kreseb.
Moc se nám líbí, jak dokázala převést barvy a charakter kreseb do polymerové hmoty. Je nepochybné, že každý rodič nebo prarodič by chtěl mít takovou památku na dobu, kdy jejich děti nebo vnuci byli malí.
